Remembering Paul J. Reichenbach
He trusted me to do it

I don't think I realized it until I got older. When I think about people who taught me about trust, Paul ranked in the top 3. I went to Kutz with my youth group, CRaFTY, for conclaves and any other thing i could go to from the time i was 12 and in 9th grade. I attended Academy for one summer, I think it was 1975. I was younger. 15 and a senior in high school. I worked the kitchen. Hobart was my friend, most days. First real job. Bus from the city to town, where John picked me up. Teddy taught me to make sure everything was up to par. Moved to dining room manager. Paul taught me everything that was expected, from setting a table, to changing the milk, to pouring juice and wine without spilling. Checking the needs in both the small and large dining rooms. Then he let me be and expected me to do the job. Not a little kid like everyone thought. Then the weekend came and he asked me if I could run the camp. Me... nervously, I went up. It was a small group using the small dining room. They arrived and I have them the welcome that I had heard Paul give so often. I know I didn't get it all, but I just wanted to make him proud. The weekend went well, I think he called me and said I did a good job. He trusted me to do it and I did. I don't think anyone has ever made me feel so trusted. Thank you Paul. I know I am not alone in saying you were so important in making me who I am. You will be missed.
