Margarete’s silver household objects

Object record

The taller vessel is a lidded powdered-sugar caster: its pierced cover was designed to shake out sugar. The rectangular hinged container is probably a cigarette box or card case, decorated with a raised tavern or domestic-genre scene. Their historicist rococo ornament points broadly to German or Central European manufacture around 1880–1914. Hanau is a useful comparison point, not an attribution: no maker’s mark, assay mark, export document or contemporaneous valuation is visible in the supplied views. The metal has not been tested and may be solid silver or silver-plated base metal.
