Werner Reichenbach was born in Wernigerode on 13 March 1914, the son of Fritz and Martha. His childhood address was the shop house at Breite Straße 7, where Jeanette’s initial still stood above the windows.
Werner and his wife Margarete escaped Germany in 1939. Jeanette’s 1941 asset declaration notes that her grandson was already in Brazil with his wife and child, a terse family sentence inside the paperwork used to strip her property.
The Stolperstein outside Breite Straße 7 gives the public outline: Flucht 1939, überlebt in Brasilien. Family records say that Werner died in Brazil in 1992 and never returned to Wernigerode.
A later solicitor wrote that Fritz and Martha had died childless. Werner’s Wernigerode birth register corrects that error. Details concerning living Brazilian descendants remain protected from public display.

What remains uncertain
A Buchenwald money-card envelope and the 1.1.5.1 Aktionsjuden list (running number 309, DocID 5278159) name Werner Reichenbach as prisoner 23938. The cards 054.328 and 054.329 carry no date of birth (30 RM recorded 28 November; emptied 15 October 1940). The identification is circumstantial: the number sits 38 below Fritz 23976 in the same November 1938 block. This archive does not treat the camp file as proof that he was Fritz’s son. He fled to Brazil in 1939.
