Wernigerode merchant

Fritz Reichenbach

14 March 1884 — 22 November 1938

Owner of the shop at Breite Straße 7, dispossessed and killed at Buchenwald.

Fritz was the only son of Salomon Gustav and Jeanette Reichenbach. He took over the clothing business at Breite Straße 7 after Jeanette’s long proprietorship. He married Martha Pohly of Göttingen; their son Werner was born in Wernigerode on 13 March 1914.

A notarial deed of 26 August 1938 records the sale of the property and states in its own numbered clause that official approval was required because the seller was Jewish under the April 1938 property-registration regulation.

He was arrested on 10 November 1938 during the November pogrom and killed at Buchenwald on 22 November 1938. Dolf wrote from St. Moritz four days later.
